How Briefcase is put together, and what to do first.
Getting started
- 1
Create your Briefcase account
Your account is the person who owns and pays for companies. It comes with a free @briefcasemail.com address, which is both your login and a real inbox — there is no third-party sign-in, because the inbox is the point.
- 2
Create a company
A three-step setup: company details, your owner login and email domain, then the tools you want. Everything after that lives inside that company workspace.
- 3
Add your people
Users are created from the HR tool. Each gets a company email login, a department and a designation — and the designation is what decides which tools they can reach.
- 4
Turn tools on as you grow
Add or remove tools any time from the workspace. Shared data — clients, products, services, staff — carries across every tool automatically.
Key concepts
- Account vs company
- One account can own many companies. Each company has its OWN plan, seats and storage, so a plan is bought per company — the account is just who owns and pays for them.
- Roles and designations
- A role is a set of tool permissions. A designation points at a role, so changing a role updates everyone holding that designation.
- Masters
- Clients, services, inventory, departments and stores are company-wide catalogs. Every tool reads the same record — never a private copy.
- Documents
- Invoices, receipts, quotations and purchase orders are designed once as templates, then auto-fill from the real record.
- Briefcase mail
- Every account gets a real @briefcasemail.com inbox that sends and receives normal internet email. Companies can verify their own domain instead.
- Billing
- Plans are priced per user, per month, and bought per company: Start-up $8 and Business $22 per user, plus Enterprise on request. Yearly billing takes 10% off, and every account gets one 7-day trial.
